This infographic demonstrates how the positions of the earth, sun, and moon interact to form the eight familiar shapes we see in the sky. It was designed for use by teachers who will be giving lessons about our solar system, but might need a refresher on some of the topics they are likely to be asked about. The sidebar contains introductory information and doubles as the sun, giving us a consistent light source. The eight positions of the moon show us how they would look to someone standing on Earth from that angle. As an added bonus, Earth's axis and The Moon's orbit both have the correct tilt, and all of the objects seen here are to scale.
